At Marquette Movers, some projects are about more than simply moving belongings from one place to another. Recently, we had the privilege of helping an extended family carefully organize, consolidate, and clear out a historic camp on Middle Island Point in Marquette — a property originally built and cherished by local historical figure Forest Roberts.
The camp had remained in the family for generations and contained nearly a century’s worth of furniture, antiques, tools, keepsakes, documents, household goods, and memories. As the property prepared to transition to new ownership, the family faced the overwhelming task of sorting through decades of accumulated belongings while preserving the history and significance of the site.
Our team was honored to assist with the process.
A Century of History Under One Roof
Historic family camps often become time capsules. Over decades, belongings accumulate naturally — from vintage furniture and kitchenware to handwritten notes, photographs, outdoor equipment, and heirlooms tied to multiple generations of family history.
This project required far more than hauling items away. It involved:
Careful organization and categorization
Coordinating with multiple family members
Preserving historically meaningful items
Preparing donations and disposals
Consolidating keepsakes for relatives
Removing unwanted materials efficiently and respectfully
Preparing the property for its next chapter
Every room told part of the story.

Organization & Consolidation Services
Large estate and camp clean-outs can quickly become emotionally and physically exhausting. Our organization and consolidation services are designed to simplify the process while giving families the time and space to focus on what matters most.
For this Middle Island Point project, we helped:
Sort and stage items for family review
Consolidate keepsakes and heirlooms
Remove unwanted furniture and debris
Coordinate disposal and donation logistics
Prepare the cabin for turnover
Protect fragile and sentimental belongings during handling
Projects like this often require patience, flexibility, and attention to detail — especially when generations of history are involved.
Respecting Historic Properties
Historic camps and cabins throughout the Upper Peninsula often present unique logistical challenges:
Remote locations
Limited access roads
Aging structures
Fragile interiors
Delicate antiques and memorabilia
Large volumes of accumulated contents
Our crew approaches these projects carefully and respectfully, understanding that many items carry sentimental value even when they are no longer being kept.
Helping Families Through Transitions
Whether a property is being sold, inherited, renovated, or passed to a new generation, organization and clean-out services can make the transition significantly easier for everyone involved.
We understand that these projects are rarely “just junk removal.” They often involve family history, emotional decisions, and years of memories attached to a home or camp.
Being trusted to help with a property connected to someone as respected locally as Forest Roberts was something we genuinely appreciated.
